Literally at the beginning of our traveling, at 1:30 pm Tuesday as our plane takes off, I look over my right shoulder and see flames from the Cave fire!
Wednesday, November 27 — the day before Thanksgiving
The Cave fire is very much on our minds on our way down to breakfast. We need an update.
Day after the Cave wildfire; the Santa Barbara fire official who posted photo said this will probably be the last time in his life he writes about snow helping the fire-fighting effort! Good breakfasts at our hotel; excellent selection, I don’t have to talk to anyone, and how ’bout those miniature M&Ms?
Thursday, November 28 — the day
Friday, November 29 — the day after
Traditions we’ve developed for the day after Thanksgiving in the last 5 or 10 years include: I meet my old friends Jean and Chuck for breakfast somewhere; the rest of the group goes to the Macy’s parade in downtown Seattle, freezes their respective butts off and begins recovery afterward at Top Pot donuts; Christmas decorations are put up (or at least started).
Met Jean & Chuck in the 1970s in Logan, Utah back when we were all Gentiles (i.e., non-Mormons).
Google’s suggestion for walking from our hotel to breakfast spot Howz this for a section of the path!? Oh no, I’m fine — I’m always comfortably warm in Michelle & Bobby’s house These two came up in a conversation, but that’s a pretty lame reason for including this photo! Golden State Warriers, NBA champs. Photo bombed by unidentified big fuzzy doggie; Macy’s is closing in Seattle, by the way (old farts are allowed to avoid using BTW ), and this is the final parade. Yeah, they’re smiling but they’re freezing their you-know-whats. (place holder for caption I didn’t add)
Another irrelevant photo is this year’s NBA champions who were unwilling to visit the Trump White House so they went to visit Obama. The former president, who is close to my size, 6′ 2″, is the little blue guy in the center!
Saturday, November 30
This year’s biennial holiday card. I really like the look on Chris’s face! Chris and I hear some solar system talk between grandma and boy at a nearby table in the hotel dining room and Chris can’t resist showing them the Pluto tee shirt she just happens to be wearing! Bright blue and red — voted best fire hydrant of the trip! The whole group sees this movie (much fun) in that theatre … with these seats. Must say I look like I’m getting all set to sleep through it! I don’t sleep! — must have enjoyed it.
Sunday, December 1
Taken at home but my favorite current dessert came up in a conversation once. Brunch at the Barking Frog. Fancy little spear from Bloody Mary here is now an adjustment tool for my decrepit, left hearing aid. We snag the best table in the house! May have helped to have had the place’s executive chef in our group. Here we all are again in the lobby of Willows Lodge, another part of the property that includes the Barking Frog.
